King of the Rock
02:36
|
|
||
king of the rock
king of the rock
owns all the land from the house to the dock
king of the rock
lord on the hill
as mighty as god when he's standing still
i hope that you're kind
to the voice in your mind
that begs you to "go, and leave all this behind"
king of the rock
lord on the mound
late in the fall with leaves on the ground
soon the winter will come
with your fingers all numb
you'll stand like a guard while the rest of us run
and freeze where you stand
on the rock
in the sun

Mothman

|

check the back of the cab
where'd you see it last?
is it really that bad?
sorry, i won't ask
drink the rest of the can
in the cool sand
make a note of the plan
on the back of my hand
we're not alone here
check your coat at the door
what'cha cryin' for?
keep your eyes on the floor
are you feeling bored?
keep the knife in your teeth
you're in the wolf pack
it's lying just beneath
it's hunting you back
you're gonna die here
i'm the mothman
hangin' by the street lamp
in a red van
with a rubber stamp
i'm the mothman
workin' on a sun tan
fallin' out of my vans
on the ceiling fan

Cutthroat
04:30
|
|
||
my hands are soaked
this shirt is covered in crimson red
you cut my throat
ruined the floor and left me dead
if i could stand i'd run you through
from the ground what can i do?
only through flesh can spirits pass
so many questions i'll never have to ask
thanks to you i'm free
no one's hurting me anymore
i do as i please
i can rest in peace
i can't leave this house but that's ok
i hardly ever left it anyway
thanks to you i'm free
they took my bones
buried 'em off in who-knows-where
sold my home
and threw away my favorite chair
floating through the kitchen in a rut
some days i wish i had another throat to cut
spent a-hundred years in misery
until some guy invented the tv
thanks to him i'm free
no more bored for me anymore
all the things to see
on this tiny screen
dancers cutting rugs while singers croon
i hear they'll add a second channel soon
thanks to you i'm free
they're gonna knock these walls down pretty soon
the people left me here last afternoon
i see the yellow trucks they're closing in
but when this spirit ends it might begin
somewhere else
maybe

Sweater

it wasn't 'til the sunlight hit my eyes that i realized i was sleeping
the clouds were crochet across the sky, it felt like my heart was sinking
two dozen shades of pink and gold, all the dew on the grass was frozen
but we were safe from winter cold thanks to the coats we'd chosen
we drove over the hill
and the lake was perfectly still
your phone was kind to greet us
but we didn't know who was waiting to meet us
it wasn't 'til my body hit the floor that i realized i was hurting
i left my ghost behind the door, and felt the planet turning
my bones were too heavy to drag, all the vines in my back were twisted
my sweater was waiting in a bag, and i cried at how much i missed it

get away from me pretty baby
i don't wanna see your face
i smell silver on your nails
lycanthropy's thick in my veins
a swollen hammer with rabies
my teeth all over the place
collect the pieces still breathing
see if they fit in grandma's vase
lock my eyes up in a cold steel box
any size or shape will do just make sure it locks
throw the key into the lake and watch it sink real slow
cast the box into the river and just pray it floats a w a y
rest in pieces little monster
i don't wanna see you again
a curse on everyone's household
and a leech on all your friends
crocodile tears at the funeral
everyone is glad in the end
four-hundred cellophane headstones that'll blow away in the wind
let the winter come and make me god
watch the obelisk erect from under my backyard
all the worms that ate my atoms will collect as one
from the river i will watch as all the anthills run a w a y
